Man Utd make first contact over £53m winger, Liverpool boss identifies club for Rhian Brewster after Swansea City spell and Wales star valued at £20m

Here are your transfer headlines for Tuesday, September 1.

Manchester United begin negotiations with Juventus

Manchester United have started negotiations with Juventus over signing Douglas Costa, Calciomercato report.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been interested in signing Jadon Sancho this summer, but is now said to be exploring other options.

Costa is one of those options and reports in Italy suggest United are now in contact with the Serie A giants over signing the Brazilian this summer.

Calciomercato report that Juventus want United to stump up £53m to land the 29-year-old, however the Old Trafford club want to pay significantly less than that.

It is claimed Juve will have to come down drastically in their asking price if a deal is to get over the line.

Jurgen Klopp believes Sheffield United is the perfect place for Brewster

Jurgen Klopp believes Sheffield United will be a better environment for Rhian Brewster than the likes of Tottenham or Newcastle, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 20-year-old shot to prominence last season with a terrific end-of-season loan with Swansea City, for whom he scored 11 goals in 22 games to catapult them into the play-offs.

Now, though, a clutch of Premier League sides are after his services.

The Sheffield Star claim that Klopp thinks that under Chris Wilder, Brewster will get a better footballing education, believing the Blades' high press and style of attack will suit the player perfectly.

Wales ace Harry Wilson will cost Prem clubs £20m

Liverpool winger Harry Wilson will cost £20m if he is to be sold this summer, according to reports.

A number of clubs are credited with an interest in the 23-year-old Wales international, who has enjoyed impressive loan spells with Derby County and Bournemouth in the last two season.

Now, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle are all said to be keen on signing him, but The Sun journalist Alan Nixon believes Liverpool's £20m price tag is keeping the trio at bay for the moment.

A lower asking price will likely be needed if Wilson is to secure a permanent move away from Anfield.

Messi to Man City 'likely'

Lionel Messi's move to Manchester City is 'likely' to be completed this summer, Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa has claimed.

City have emerged as favourites to sign the Argentine, who is hoping to leave Barca this summer after a fallout with their board.

“I think a move to Man City is likely,” the Barca presidential candidate told Goal.

“With Pep, Messi experienced his most brilliant years in Barcelona. It would only be logical if both of them worked together again.

“City, like almost all English clubs, also has the financial means to build a team that can win anything.”

Leicester City close in on first summer signing in £21.5m deal

Leicester City are set to make Belgian international wing-back Timothy Castagne their first signing of the summer.

Reports from Castagne’s home nation (via LeicestershireLive ) say an £18m deal, potentially rising to £21.5m, has now been agreed with his club Atalanta, with the 24-year-old signing a five-year contract at the King Power Stadium.

While naturally a right-sided player, Castagne is equally comfortable on the left and he will help City cope with the departure of Ben Chilwell, who left the club last week in a £50m move to Chelsea.
