Man Utd 'make Bruno Fernandes transfer bid' - but it has been rejected for one reason

Manchester United have reportedly made a £35million bid to sign Bruno Fernandes - but the offer has been rejected by Sporting Lisbon.

Portugal international Fernandes has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford throughout the summer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has prioritised signing a winger and full-back in £18million Daniel James from Swansea and £50million Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace respectively.

But the Norwegian has reportedly now turned his attention to Fernandes, in the hope that he can sign the midfielder for just £35million.

According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, United have made contact with Sporting over a deal for Fernandes, and have offered £35m for his services.

But Sporting are holding out for a bigger transfer fee and are hoping a bidding war will ensue, as they look to make £60-70million instead.

United are cautious of overspending on the midfielder after making Wan-Bissaka the most expensive full-back of all time.

The right-back revealed his delight in putting pen to paper with with Red Devils this week, telling the club's official website: "It's an unbelievable feeling and an honour to call myself a Manchester United player.

"And something I know that only a small number of players have the privilege to say. I can't wait to get going and integrated into the squad.

"I will have a short break now after the European Championships but I'm looking forward to starting training with the manager and my new team-mates on the pre-season tour."
