Manchester United have made an opening offer of £35million to sign Lyon forward Moussa Dembele, according to reports in France.
The former Celtic and Fulham striker has netted 23 times in Ligue 1 this season and has attracted attention from a number of top European teams.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the process of overhauling his Manchester United squad, after the Red Devils missed out on qualifying for the Champions League this season.
And according to reports from France, the Norwegian is getting the ball rolling by attempting to sign the 22-year-old striker before other teams get involved and a bidding war takes place.
Manchester United recently agreed terms with Swansea City winger Daniel James, and are also expected to sign Dillon Hoogewerf from Ajax.
Ajax's head of Youth Education, Said Ouaali, confirmed Hoogewerf is leaving the Amsterdam-based club.
He told Ajax TV: "Dillon has indicated last week that he will leave the club.
"He is leaving for a foreign club. We wish him a lot of success and know that we have done everything to keep him.
"He may ultimately make the choice and choose a foreign adventure."
Romelu Lukaku meanwhile is set to leave Old Trafford for Inter Milan, with United still in conversation with the Italian club over the switch.
One report from Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter will launch a £30million bid plus Ivan Perisic - a long-term United target - for the forward.
Others claim the Red Devils would rather land Milan Skriniar as part of a swap deal.
