Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney explains why he would hate Liverpool FC winning title over Man City

Wayne Rooney admits he desperately does not want to see Liverpool win the Premier League title and would love Manchester City to land the trophy once again.

City are the reigning champions and have the upper hand slightly on Liverpool at the moment as they trail by two points with a game in hand.

Whilst international football takes centre stage over the coming days as the Premier League gets a rest this weekend, former Manchester United captain Rooney was asked about his title preferences during a stint as a guest on TalkSPORT.

Rooney starred for United from 2004 to 2017 but did start out at Everton and returned to Goodison Park last season.

He’s an avid Everton fan to this day but, like any staunch United supporter, he admits he would hate to see Liverpool finally end their barren league title run after not finishing first in the top tier since 1990.

“To be honest it’s great for me to be out of the country when those two are going for the title. Both coaches are doing fantastic jobs. Whoever wins will deserve it,” Rooney told TalkSPORT.

“I just hope Man City get over the line. I couldn’t deal with Liverpool winning. It is that bad. Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 and they are still talking about it now. They would have another 10 or 15 years with this.”
