Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince says that anything less than a win for the Red Devils at Southampton on Saturday will increase pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United surprisingly slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, after starting the season with a win over Chelsea and a draw at Wolves .
Many United fans have been critical of the club's transfer business this summer, with a failure to replace forward Romelu Lukaku following his switch to Inter Milan near the top of their list of grievances.
On the pitch, missed penalties from Paul Pogba at Wolves and Marcus Rashford at home to Palace have also loomed large over the beginning of the campaign, and Ince says that Solskjaer now really needs a win in Saturday's early kick-off at St Mary's in order to ease any tensions.
"The pressure is back on Ole, which is why I said they needed to hit the ground running," Ince told Paddy Power News.
"People will be starting to question whether he’s the right man for the job. It means that every game, like Southampton , becomes must-win.
"They gave him the job far too hastily for my liking, but you have to be patient with him now he’s in, he has to be given time to build his vision. It’s about fans managing their expectations of United.
"For years and years United were always up there, challenging for the title, competitive with City, Liverpool , Tottenham etc – but things have changed.
"Since Sir Alex left, that’s not the same. It’s going to be a long building process to get back to anywhere near that level."
The game against the Saints kicks off at 12.30 GMT on Saturday.
