Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson names the four players he wished he could have managed

Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed four of the players he wished he could have managed during his career.

The Scot took charge of some of the best players football has ever seen, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Eric Cantona.

However, it seems Ferguson wasn't always able to get his own way when it came to signing players.

Opening up on who he believes to be the best player England has had in some time, Ferguson admitted that he always wanted to sign Paul Gascoigne, even saying that he made a mistake in joining Tottenham over United.

When asked who the one player he wished he'd managed but never did, he told SPORTbible : "Paul Gascoigne. I think he was the best English player since Bobby Charlton. I think he was a fantastic player.

"Unfortunately, we didn't get him, and I think looking back now, he made a big mistake.

"He recognised himself years later, but we had Geordies in the camp.

"We had Bobby Charlton, Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, even Gary Pallister from Middlesborough.

"We had people there that would have taken care of him, particularly Bryan Robson. I loved his strength.

When asked for a player from a more recent generation, Ferguson listed three Spurs players, though he admitted that one hadn't lived up to expectations, as well as a Manchester City and Premier League legend.

"[Harry] Kane," he replied at first. "I thought [Dele] Alli was going to be a top player. I must admit, I don't know what has gone on there.

"Kane and the boy Son [Heung-min] at Tottenham, these have been excellent players.

"[Sergio] Aguero has been a terrific striker, there's no doubt about that. His goalscoring has been exceptional.

"The top teams will always produce a player that can stand out."
