Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs claims three Man City stars could walk into any Premier League team in history

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs says the current Manchester City side has three players who could play in any team from the Premier League era - but argued Pep Guardiola's side cannot yet be considered the greatest of all time.

City won their second successive Premier League title at the weekend - recording a record 198 points in the process across the two seasons - and there have been calls to consider Guardiola's men among the greatest Premier League sides for their achievements.

And Giggs admitted City have three players who would feature in any squad throughout the last 25 years.

Speaking to the Premier League, he was asked where City stand compared to the likes of Arsenal's invincibles or United's treble winners.

"Yeah, it's a conversation because of what they're doing and the players that they've got, the age of the group," Giggs said.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola sends message to Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp after title win

"They've got, probably in my view, three players who would walk into any team in the Premier League era - David Silva, Kompany, Aguero. There may be an argument for De Bruyne as well.

"But yeah, probably not quite there yet with regards to a couple of United teams because they went on to win the Champions League."

City exited the Champions League at the quarter final stage in the last two seasons to English opposition, and Giggs argued that United's ability to lift the Champions League as well as the Premier League gave them the edge in the overall debate of England's greatest teams.

"So the 1998/99 team, obviously United in the 2007/08 team because they went onto win the Champions League," Giggs explained.

"So if they keep winning the Premier League, win a Champions League, then yeah, they've got to be up there with the greatest of all time."
