Man Utd legend predicts when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will challenge for Premier League title

Gary Neville reckons Manchester United are still at least two seasons away from being genuine Premier League title contenders.

The United icon took part in a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday morning and was asked to predict when he believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be able to challenge for the league crown.

And, despite seeing his former Red Devils teammate oversee a huge squad overhaul in the summer, Neville believes that Solskjaer's side aren't anywhere near being title challengers at the moment.

He said: "Earliest with perfect recruitment 2021/22."

It's a damning assessment of a squad who are looking to return to their heydays, having last won the Premier League title in 2013 in what was Sir Alex Ferguson's last season in charge.

Indeed, United already trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by seven points after playing just five top-flight games.

The Red Devils have managed a disappointing two victories this season, while they also suffered a shock home defeat to struggling Crystal Palace .

Neville's comments come after a summer in which Solskjaer signed Harry Maguire for £80million, Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50m and Daniel James for £18m.

Neville also said he would sign French trio Raphael Varane, N'Golo Kante and Kylian Mbappe if he was tasked with bringing fresh faces to Manchester United .

After being asked which stars he would bring to Old Trafford, he was firm in his response by revealing that he would sign the French World Cup-winning trio. He said: "Varane, Kante and Mbappe".

The Old Trafford icon also claimed that United's current midfield is not good enough, while he tipped Liverpool as having the best chance in their history to claim the league title.
