Man Utd legend Gary Neville defends Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie over Cardiff City taunts

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has defended Oli McBurnie after reports suggested the Sheffield United striker could be investigated by the Football Association for making an obscene gesture while watching the South Wales derby.

The Scot once again showed his support for his former club by joining the likes of Joe Rodon, Courtney Baker-Richardson and UFC star Brett Johns in the away end of Swansea City's Championship clash with rivals Cardiff City.

McBurnie posed for photographs with fans and led numerous chants while in the stands at Cardiff City Stadium.

But cameras captured the 23-year-old taunting the Bluebirds faithful with an obscene gesture with his hands.

The Sun reported that a sanction for the player is 'almost certain'.

And Sky Sports pundit Neville has described the possibility of McBurnie being punished as a "disgrace".

Writing on his official Twitter account, Neville said: "That’s a disgrace.

"This lad has done the most normal thing I’ve seen from a footballer for a long time.

"He goes to support his team and is pictured, filmed and ends up with this."

Swansea icon Lee Trundle shared Neville's views.

He said: "Exactly mate, people moan that players are too far detached from the fans then when one has a day out as a fan they do this."

The FA have reminded Oli McBurnie of his responsibilities following the incident.
