Man Utd 'launch transfer approach for Gianluigi Donnarumma as David De Gea replacement'

Manchester United have contacted super-agent Mino Raiola over the availability of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to reports.

The Italian shot stopper, who made his senior debut for Milan at the age of just 16 in 2015, is thought to be seen as the natural heir to David de Gea by the Old Trafford hierarchy.

The Spanish 'keeper is about to enter the final year of his contract, and after a season full of errors, United are said to be tempted to cash in on the 28-year-old this summer.

As well as Donnarumma, Raiola represents a number of star players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Matthijs de Ligt.

Reports in Italy from Corriere dello Sera say United have already spoken to Raiola about a potential deal for his client over the coming months.

Milan are thought to be open to selling the player if they can generate enough money, and they are thought to value Donnarumma at around £52m.

He had a superb campaign in Serie A this season, conceding just 32 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

He has also won 12 caps for Italy and has long been considered one of the country's most exciting prospects and one of the most talented young footballers of his generation.

When asked about his future Donnarumma refused to rule out leaving the club that he has been at since he joined from Napoli in 2015, saying: “I prefer not to talk about it."

A lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford is not likely to be an issue for Donnarumma, as Milan also failed to qualify for next season's competition, finishing in fifth place, one point behind bitter rivals Inter Milan and this year's surprise package Atalanta.

Arsenal were also said to have an expressed an interest in Donnarumma, but he is most likely out of their price range.
