Man Utd 'keeping tabs on Ruben Dias' as Benfica attempt to increase transfer release clause

Manchester United are reportedly among a number of clubs monitoring Ruben Dias' future at Benfica.

Portugal international Dias, 22, was linked with United this summer with Wolves also believed to be interested.

He remained with Benfica, where he has spent his entire professional career since making his senior debut in 2017.

And Record reports the club want him to follow in the footsteps of club legend Luisao, who made over 500 appearances over 15 years with Benfica.

They face interest in the defender again next summer though with United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid all said to be keen.

Benfica are reportedly lining up a new contract for Dias, despite him only putting pen to paper on his current deal at the start of last season.

That contract has a release clause of around £60m but the Portuguese champions hope to increase that to closer to the world-record £80m fee United paid for Harry Maguire.

Benfica also hope the sweetener of being made captain would encourage Dias to stay put.

Dias has linked up with the Portugal squad ahead of their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Ukraine and Luxembourg.

United scouts have reportedly been to watch Dias in action this season, along with teammate Florentino Luis.

Benfica rejected an approach from PSG for holding midfielder Luis this summer, with Manchester City also believed to be interested.

He only made his debut in February this year but Benfica believe they can command a huge fee for the 20-year-old, as they did from Atletico Madrid for Joao Felix.
