Man Utd 'keep tabs' on Jan Oblak as pressure on David de Gea mounts and Chelsea keen

Jan Oblak is on Manchester United's radar but they could yet face competition from Chelsea should they move for the Atletico Madrid No 1.

Over the past few years the Slovenian has formed a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

But after more than six years in Spain Oblak is thought to be open to a new challenge.

His release clause at the Wanda Metropolitano is €120m (£109m) and United want to be kept in the loop regarding his future.

Atletico want to strengthen their side this summer but are lacking funds following the affects of the coronavirus pandemic.

It means they could accept a lower fee for Oblak who is seen as a potential replacement for De Gea at Old Trafford, reports the Sun.

United signed the Spaniard from Atletico in 2011 and could yet return with errors becoming far too regular for the 29-year-old.

De Gea only signed a new long-term deal in the summer but has cost the Red Devils several times over the past year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has regularly backed his goalkeeper despite his error-prone run and was adamant he had the mental strength to come back after his latest howler against Chelsea.

"[David] knows he should save that one 100 times out of 100 but that's football for you," said the United boss.

"It is done. Move on. I know he is a mentally strong person and goalkeeper.

"I can't speak for his confidence but he is mentally very strong. Everyone has to perform and has a chance to stake a claim every time they play.

The Blues themselves could be in the market for a new shotstopper with patience in Kepa Arrizabalaga running thin.

The £71m signing from two summers ago could be replaced with Oblak, as well as Dean Henderson, on their shortlist.
