Jose Mourinho faces a defensive crisis ahead of Arsenal, which could see him name a makeshift back four for Wednesday’s crucial clash.
The Manchester United manager has doubts over Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly, while Victor Lindelof is definitely out with a groin problem.
Ashley Young will also miss out due to suspension.
It means Mourinho could be forced to line up with Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian against an Arsenal attack that put four past Tottenham over the weekend.
United’s problems don’t end there, with Alexis Sanchez out until the New Year with a torn hamstring and Romelu Lukaku a doubt after limping off against Southampton.
Mourinho told MUTV: “We are going to be in difficulties again to build the team. We are again going to have to make adaptations and compensations to try to give some balance to the team.
“But then I believe we are again going to have the spirit to fight and to try to win the match.”
Mourinho is desperate for a win to ease the pressure on him as United’s season lurches towards another crisis.
He admits securing a position in the top four before the end of the year could now be beyond his side, but remains convinced they will secure qualification to the Champions League by the end of the season.
