Man Utd injury latest and expected return dates including Edinson Cavani

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set to welcome back one star to his team for this weekend’s trip to Newcastle.

The Red Devils have come out of the international break luckily unscathed, despite several important players being on duty for their nations.

Solskjaer’s men will be hoping to put the 6-1 defeat to Tottenham firmly to the back of their mind with a win at Newcastle on Saturday night.

The mood in the camp will no doubt have been boosted on transfer deadline day by the arrivals of three new faces.

But who does the Norwegian have available to play this weekend?

Axel Tuanzebe

Possible return date: October 17 (vs Newcastle)

Versatile defender Tuanzebe could feature for United this weekend after recovering from a foot injury.

The club academy graduate has been missing since last December with a serious foot injury, while his comeback was delayed in June when he had to undergo surgery.

He is a major doubt to start though, given his lengthy lay off, and is more likely to feature for the U23’s against Arsenal.

Phil Jones

Possible return date: Unknown

England international Jones is another member of the United squad that has been out of action for most of this calendar year.

The out-of-favour defender hasn’t featured for United since the 6-0 win in the FA Cup over Tranmere in January.

It is not known when Jones will be back in action.

Edinson Cavani

Possible return date: October 20 (vs PSG)

Cavani is currently self-isolating as per COVID-19 protocol, and will miss this weekend’s trip to Newcastle.

However, he could return to face his former club in next week’s Champions League curtain raiser at PSG.

It’s unlikely he’ll start, however, as he hasn’t played a competitive match since June.

Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is suspended for the clash against Newcastle after he was sent off in the defeat to Tottenham.

The French striker will also miss important games against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri could be in line to make their debuts at St James’ Park.
