Man Utd identify transfer replacement for PSG-bound Ander Herrera

Manchester United have identified Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye as a potential replacement for Ander Herrera.

Herrera, 29, is set to leave the Red Devils when his contract expires at the end of the season, ending a five-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard is yet to pen a new deal with the Premier League side and is expected to join French giants Paris-Saint Germain on a free transfer.

And the Evening Standard report that he could be replaced by Senegal international Gueye as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for his first transfer window as United's permanent manager.

The 29-year-old, who joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2016, was subject of a £21.5 million bid from PSG during the January transfer window, which was rejected by the Toffees.

However, the Standard claim that the holding midfielder could be available for less than £30m as Solskjaer prepares to overhaul his squad.

Gueye has made 128 appearances for the Merseyside club since arriving at Goodison Park, finding the net three times.

Man Utd have also been linked with moves for Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez and West Ham's Declan Rice as they look to identify a suitable replacement for Herrera in the heart of the midfield.

Herrera, who joined United from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, recently cast further doubt on his future in Manchester after he indicated that he is no closer to agreeing new terms at Old Trafford.

In an interview with Spanish publication Diario ABC , he admitted: "As it is right now, Manchester and I are not thinking alike and there is no renewal agreement, but my duty is to keep listening to United."

"What I know is that I’m going to continue playing in a big team.

"Obviously I will keep listening to United, but also to other clubs. I am not closing doors.”
