Man Utd 'identify cut-price transfer alternative' to Harry Maguire

Manchester United have identified France Under-19s defender Benoit Badiashile as an alternative to top target Harry Maguire, according to reports.

The Red Devils made an opening bid of £70million for Maguire, but Leicester City immediately rejected this, and are holding out for a fee closer to £85million.

Manchester United do not feel Maguire is worth more than the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk and are growing tired of negotiating with the Foxes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started to look at alternatives to the England international in a bid to make sure United have someone new in defence before the season starts.

And French publication L'Equipe is reporting that the Red Devils have identified Monaco's Badiashile as a perfect alternative.

The 18-year-old centre back has been on Wolves' radar in recent months, but Manchester United have reportedly been keeping tabs on him from a distance for the past few seasons.

The youngster is valued at around £30million, which is considerably less than the £85million the Red Devils are expected to pay for Maguire.

What's more, the teenager would fit in with Solskjaer's recruitment strategy of signing young and talented players before they reach their prime.
