Man Utd head of scouting in Salzburg to watch Erling Braut Haaland vs Liverpool

Manchester United's head of scouting Marcel Bout was in attendance in Salzburg as to watch Erling Braut Haaland in action against Liverpool .

Haaland has been tipped to join the Red Devils in January amid reports he has a release clause of just £17million if he leaves during the next transfer window.

The Glazers are reportedly ready to show their faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by funding his move for Haaland, who he handed his senior debut as manager of Molde.

And they sent Marcel Bout to Austria to continue to run the rule over the 19-year-old in Champions League action against top level opposition.

Despite facing a tough task against Premier League leaders Liverpool, Haaland started brightly, having a good effort saved by Alisson just over 20 minutes in.

His side looked lively early on, with the likes of Hee-Chan Hwang and Takumi Minamino also taking their chance to impress under the watching eye of Bout and other scouts no doubt keeping an eye on the game.

Whilst there is obvious interest in Haaland as a result of his 28 goals in just 21 games this term, ex-United and England striker Michael Owen claimed his not "excited" by the youngster.

Speaking on BT Sport ahead of the game, Owen said: "He doesn't get you off your seat, put it that way.

"He does in that way (scoring goals) and that's absolutely fine. Do you know what, many a player have made great careers out of just scoring goals and that's absolutely fine.

"But what I'm saying is, are we talking about someone who is going to go to the very top? It's very hard to see that.

"He's 19, he's doing unbelievable for his age, but when you look at the great players, they do things that no-one else can.

"They're either great dribblers or lightening quick or something.

"I don't watch him and get excited. I'm not desperate to see him tonight, put it that way, but his stats just make you respect what he's doing at the moment.

"I'm probably being harsh, he's 19, but he's got a long way to go to match the numbers that he's scoring at the moment."
