Man Utd have secret weapon in talks over Harry Kane transfer after Tottenham shortlist revealed

The future of Harry Kane could be one of the big talking points during the summer transfer window once again. Just two years on from a protracted saga in which Manchester City were tipped to sign he England captain, it is City's rivals United who will now be the centre of attention when it comes to Kane's future.

Kane will have just one year left on his Tottenham contract come the end of this season, and with question marks over the future of Antonio Conte, following his outburst after the 3-3 draw with Southampton on Saturday. Conte is expected to leave the club before the end of the season, and while football.london understands there is no correlation between Conte's future and Kane's, Tottenham's all-time top goalscorer will want to know the ambition of the club before making a decision.

Kane has been loyal to Spurs throughout his career and has always said he was willing to stay with the club as long as their ambitions matched his. But another season has passed without silverware in N17 and turning 30 this summer, time is starting to run out for Kane.

City have moved on, having signed Erling Haaland last summer, similarly Liverpool brought in Darwin Nunez, while Kane would be unlikely to ruin his Spurs connection with a move to Arsenal. He has also admitted he does not fancy a move abroad, leaving just Chelsea and Manchester United among the top six as likely moves.

Chelsea are another Kane would be unlikely to sully his Spurs links by joining, leaving United as the only viable option. The Red Devils do need a striker and have been linked with Napoli's Victor Osimhen as well as Kane.

Tottenham are reported to want in the region of £100million for Kane, even though he has only one year left on his current Spurs deal, with Champions League qualification, more likely with Kane in the side, worth millions.

But if United do not want to splash out £100million, they could have a secret weapon in the form of a player Spurs might want in a player-plus-cash swap deal.

Spurs are looking for a long-term Hugo Lloris replacement, with the Frenchman now 36 years old. Dean Henderson has previously been linked with a move to N17 and is on the goalkeeper shortlist Spurs have drawn up to replace Lloris, as revealed by football.london .

Henderson is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest but has dropped from first choice at the City ground thanks to Keylor Navas' arrival. Henderson is unlikely to be an option for Erik ten Hag moving forward and could therefore be used as a makeweight in a deal for Kane.

Currently valued at up to €4million (£3.5million) by the CIES Football Observatory, any move for him will not knock very much off the total Kane price at all, however.
