Manchester United handed injury boost ahead of West Ham visit as Solskjaer confirms return

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed forward Alexis Sanchez is set to return for the Red Devils for the visit of West Ham this weekend in the Premier League.

The Chilean, whose move to Man Utd from Arsenal last January has been a bit of an expensive disaster, has been sidelined since January with a knee injury he picked up as the Reds beat Southampton 3-2.

Sanchez was pictured back in training on Tuesday with the United first team ahead of their Champions League quarter final against Barcelona on Wednesday but he is not expected to feature against the Catalan giants.

However boss Solskjaer confirmed that the 30-year-old will be "probably" be available for selection when Manuel Pellegrini's side come to town for next Saturday's evening kick off at Old Trafford.

The Manuel Lanzini conundrum - is midfielder a help or a hindrance to West Ham?

The Norwegian boss said on Tuesday: "He's done lots of recovery work & he's injury free. He's probably in the squad for West Ham. He's not going to be able to join in tomorrow [vs Barcelona]."

Sanchez joined United as part of a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way to Arsenal from Old Trafford but it hasn't quite gone to plan for reportedly the highest wage earner in the Premier League as the Chilean has returned just three goals since his move to Manchester.

Sanchez has a good record against West Ham however, having scored four times and created another in his last seven outings against the Hammers including a hat trick for his former side Arsenal when they won 5-1 at the London Stadium back in 2016 when Slaven Bilic was in charge.
