Man Utd handed boost as Harry Kane snubs rival and makes transfer priority clear

Harry Kane is making it clear that his No.1 priority is to stay in the Premier League.

‌Paris Saint-Germain made enquiries to see if the Tottenham striker would be interested in a move to France this summer. But the interest was instantly rebuffed with the French giants believing that the England captain is not interested in moving abroad.

Real Madrid have also been interested and may now step up their interest as Karim Benzema prepares to leave this summer for a mega pay day in Saudi Arabia. Tottenham are undoubtedly more open to selling to a foreign club than a Premier League rival this summer and they would rather risk Kane running down his contract than sell to Manchester United.

‌But Kane, who turns 30 next month, is in a strong position with just one year left on his current deal and he becomes a free agent in 2024. That would leave him with better options, a potentially huge signing-on fee and United would then also be able to get Kane without an ugly transfer saga this summer.

‌United have made Kane their No. 1 transfer target this summer but Spurs do not want to do business on him. It remains to be seen whether a huge £100m-plus offer would tempt Spurs chairman Daniel Levy but United would be reluctant to pay that if he has just one year left while the fans would be furious to see their top scorer leave.

United boss Erik ten Hag remains intent on signing the 29-year-old, though, with the Red Devils targeting a serious run at the Premier League title next season. Kane's superb tally of 30 league goals this term in an underperforming Tottenham team has only increased the Dutch manager's admiration, but the Spurs striker was coy on his future after scoring twice to relegate Leeds on the final day.

"Speculation is part and parcel of being a footballer, especially when you're at the top of your game," Kane told BT Sport. "I've just been focusing on this season and trying to help the team as much as possible. To score a couple today was nice, to finish that way, but all in all I'm just looking forward to a nice break and then a couple of games with England."

Ten Hag, who's desperate to bring in a new No.9 at United, praised Kane ahead of his side's trip to Tottenham in April. He hailed: "The number of goals, and also his key actions [that] come to a goal, final passes as well, he is just a great player, great personality as well."
