Man Utd had helicopter ready to sign Gareth Bale as Liverpool and Tottenham in for Leeds United star

The transfer window is now closed and for Premier League teams, they will have to wait until January to sign any new players.

It was an unusual window, with clubs not able to spend what they usually would due to the economic crisis Covid-19 has caused.

However, there is still a demand for new signings as teams look to improve their squads - and the January window rumour mill is in full swing.

Here are the latest Premier League transfer rumours.

Moyes makes Bale Man Utd admission

David Moyes has revealed he had a helicopter ready to sign Gareth Bale for Manchester United in 2013.

However, the Wales international snubbed Moyes and decided to join Real Madrid instead - where he spent seven years.

Moyes said (via the Daily Mail): “I wanted Gareth Bale to be my first signing at Manchester United. But it was already down the road a bit with Real Madrid. Manchester United offered more money than Real Madrid. They offered more money to the player.

“We did everything we could to try and get the player. We even had a helicopter at the training ground to take him and bring him back. We thought we had a chance.”

Koeman confirms Barca interest in Wijnaldum

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed the club’s interest in Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum.

The former Netherlands manager wants a reunion with the Dutch international and has suggested that the La Liga giants could come in for the 29-year-old in January - with his current deal at Anfield expiring next summer.

Koeman told Dutch newspaper AD: “(Trying to sign him in January) is certainly a possibility, yes. I will try, because I would like to have him here.

“But I cannot estimate now what the financial situation of the club is like in January.”

City prepare Messi offer

Manchester City are considering a January move for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, according to the Daily Star.

The 33-year-old forward is expected to leave Barca next summer, and City are considered as the favourites to sign him.

Pep Guardiola’s side would obviously have major competition for Messi, but they could offer just £15m in January.

Messi’s contract at the Camp Nou expires next summer, so they could be tempted to cash in on the Argentine.

United could offer Pogba for Valverde

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, and could offer Paul Pogba for the Uruguay international.

That’s according to The Sun, who say that the 22-year-old has a £640m buyout clause in his contract.

Pogba recently admitted that he would like to play for Madrid in the future, and the Frenchman could play a huge part in the deal.

Valverde has forced himself into Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season, and has attracted the interest from Old Trafford.

Liverpool and Spurs monitoring Leeds star

Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both monitoring Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to the Mirror.

Phillips has carried his fine form from the Championship into the top-flight this season, and his performances have earned him his first England caps.

Now, the Reds and Spurs are both tracking the 24-year-old midfielder and could make a move, either in January, or next summer.

The Leeds-born Phillips only signed a new five-year contract at Elland Road a year ago.
