Man Utd great Gary Neville and Gary Lineker say same thing on Liverpool disallowed goal

Pundits Gary Neville and Gary Lineker have responded to Liverpool's disallowed goal at home to Manchester United in the same manner.

Roberto Firmino thought he had given Liverpool a 2-0 lead at Anfield this afternoon but the goal was disallowed for a foul which was adjudged to have been committed on United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Liverpool opened the scoring thanks to Virgil van Dijk's header in the 14th minute but thought they had doubled their advantage when Firmino found the back of the net.

The decision was looked at by VAR and the on-field call of goal was overturned, much to the frustration of the home fans and the delight of United supporters.

Neville has even explained that he thought United were fortunate not to be further behind.

"They think it's a foul by Virgil van Dijk on David de Gea but my initial reaction was it absolutely wasn't. It looked like he just dropped it. We will see on VAR and it will come down to whether Van Dijk has raised his arm or not," Neville told Sky Sports.

"I don't think that's a foul. Van Dijk has basically dropped his arms and jumped for the ball but we shall see. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is furious, David de Gea is furious. We've seen it before, David, you've got to be stronger when challenged. I just think he drops it. I think it's soft. If it was against me at the other end, I wouldn't expect a foul."

The goal was taken away and Match of the Day presenter Lineker also shared a similar opinion to Neville.

"Not sure that was a clear and obvious error, if an error at all," Lineker tweeted.

Liverpool had the ball in the back of the net again in the first half but Gini Wijnaldum's strike was ruled out due to an offside decision.
