Harry Maguire is in contention to face Norwich, despite claims the Manchester United defender would be out for an extended period.

The England international missed Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi final defeat to Man City after suffering a hip injury.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed his surprise over the suggestion the issue was potentially a long-term problem, claiming: “He might have been mistaken for Harry Kane.”

The United manager added: “He’s got a chance for tomorrow. It was a minor thing. He will go through training and we will see how he reacts.

“He’s a warrior and if there’s a minor problem he’ll put himself up to play. At half time against Wolves he was feeling discomfort, but played on.

“He was close to playing against City, but just not fit enough. He’s got a chance now.”

Jesse Lingard will miss Norwich on Saturday due to illness.

Solskjaer also delivered an update on Scott McTominay’s recovery from knee ligament damage, revealing he will be out for another month at least.

Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah will play for the under 23s on Friday night.

“Scott’s out for a while,” said Solskjaer. “We won’t see him before the winter break. Hopefully in February.

“Eric and Tim are playing tonight in the reserves. Hopefully they’ll get through that to be available for us again.”
