Man Utd get welcome double injury boost ahead of Premier League clash with Everton

Manchester United are expecting to be able to call upon both Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani for the weekend's game with Everton despite both going off in the 9-0 rout of Southampton.

The pair were withdrawn at half-time of the Premier League record-equalling rout at Old Trafford with Shaw having assisted two goals, the second of which was scored by Cavani.

Both players have been in fine form in recent weeks, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that both will be fit enough for the weekend visit of Carlo Ancelotti's men.

On Cavani, who was replaced by Anthony Martial as the Frenchman went on to score two confidence-boosting goals, he said: "He was good, but he got a bad tackle on his ankle so there was no point taking any risks.

"Hopefully it doesn't swell up too much.”

Shaw made way for Donny van de Beek at the break, and Solskjaer said that move was more of a precaution as he sought to protect the full-back who has been in fine form of late.

"He has played really well," he said

"Of course, we have Alex [Telles] who can cover and play well.

"With Luke, the intensity, the sprint, and high-speed running, we felt the spaces that appeared for him, if he played in the second-half the same way he played in the first-half you always run a risk.”

United's win took them level on points with Manchester City before they head to Burnley on Wednesday evening.

Their ruthless finishing has also done wonders for their goal difference, moving them onto +19, level with Liverpool and five behind City.
