Man Utd get big fitness boost ahead of Europa League final with training returns

Manchester United have received a double fitness boost ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League encounter against Fulham with two players in the frame for some game-time.

Both Daniel James and Anthony Martial are pushing to be included in the matchday squad to face the Cottagers on Tuesday evening having both recovered from layoffs.

As reported by Metro, Martial is now back in full training with his teammates despite an earlier diagnosis from boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he could sit out the rest of the season.

The club’s official website added that neither is likely to start the game against already-relegated Fulham but both may be available from the start in next week’s Europa League final against Villarreal.

Tuesday’s encounter is the first of three matches in the space nine days for United to conclude their action-packed season, which will have encompassed 61 matches in the space of eight months.

Solskjaer’s side host Fulham before concluding their league campaign away at Wolves on Sunday, as they hope to complete the season without a Premier League defeat away from Old Trafford.

It is likely that the squad will be rotated heavily ahead of the Europa League showpiece against Villarreal in Gdansk, with both Martial and James aiming to play a part in the run-in.

United will be sweating on the fitness of captain Harry Maguire, who remains sidelined with ankle ligament damage and may not feature again this season.

The England central defender sustained the knock in the recent win at Aston Villa and United’s defence has appeared shaky in his absence, conceding six times in the subsequent two matches.

Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have deputised in the centre of defence although Axel Tuanzebe is also an option in the position, with long-term absentee Phil Jones the only other player ruled out of the rest of the campaign.
