Man Utd game-changer ensures youngsters brush aside Bradford in EFL Trophy

Manchester United's youngsters sealed an impressive 3-0 win over League Two side Bradford in the EFL Trophy tonight.

And young Dillon Hoogewerf was the undoubted star of the show for Neil Wood's side.

The winger started on the bench for the game at Valley Parade but was brought on with the score goalless at the break.

And the 18-year-old certainly changed the game.

He scored one and assisted one as United atoned for defeat in the group opener at Lincoln City last time out.

Charlie Savage, son of Mirror columnist and ex-Derby and Leicester midfielder Robbie, played his part in United's opener just after the interval.

His effort deflected off Yann Songo'o to give the visitors the lead.

Hoogewerf then played in Joe hugill before the hour mark as he made it 2-0. And the Dutch youngster capped off a fine evening's work when he fired home a third late on.

Hoogewerf is tipped for big things at Old Trafford.

Speaking last year, the youngster who arrived from Ajax in 2019, said he is aiming to make an impact at senior level.

He said: "I want to [make my] debut as quickly as possible.

"That is why I went there. Manchester United came up with a good plan and the intention to make me debut at an early age.

On how he has adjusted to life in England after his time in Holland, Hoogewerf continued: "In England it is more conditional and more physical.

"Defending is not my strength. If I can fight there and do what I did in the Netherlands, then I think I can handle any competition.

"Especially the matches are really tough. It’s different than in the Netherlands.

"If you play against a club from the second league there, you can still expect a lot. If you play against NAC Breda here, it is likely that you will win."

Veteran Paul McShane, 35, played the full 90 minutes for United.
