Man Utd four-goal wonderkid turned down Arsenal and Tottenham

Manchester United's teenage prospect Joe Hugill has impressed with the youth team this season after making the move from Sunderland over the summer.

The 17-year-old goalscorer joined United in a £300,000 deal and he has been in prolific goalscoring form, netting 16 goals in 20 appearances for the Under-23s and Under-18s.

Most notably, Hugill scored four goals in a 6-3 win over Liverpool's Under-23s and his exploits have not gone unnoticed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Asked about new signing Amad, who made his first appearance for United in that game and scored twice, Solskjaer replied: "We're going to give him the time to settle in.

"If we go from that game [vs Liverpool ], I'd pick Joe Hugill. Four goals by Hugill, he's a top striker as well, we're looking forward to seeing his development.

"Amad gets a good start and why Joe didn't take the penalty himself to get five goals I'm going to ask him."

United were not the only side interested in signing the youngster over the summer, with a report from the Daily Mail claiming that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Wolves were all eyeing a move for Hugill.

Asked why he opted to join United, Hugill told the Secret Scout : "The opportunity to play for United was just crazy. You've got to think about your football. United suited my style.

"At Sunderland, it was quite defensive, but United is attack, attack, attack. As a forward, scoring goals, [in this team], it comes like an instinct. It is still quite northern as well.

"We just felt Man United was the right club and I never looked back! Playing for a club like Man United is every kids dream.

"Signing felt as surreal as anything. It was quite tough because it was during Covid as well. You knew what was happening but then you were always thinking 'When are we going to get down and get started?'"
