Man Utd flier Dan James and Tottenham's Joe Rodon wanted by old boss in shock double summer transfer swoop - reports

Brighton boss Graham Potter is set to make a stunning double swoop for Wales stars Dan James and Joe Rodon this summer, claim reports.

The Sun say Potter is keen to reunite with his old Swansea City duo to give them greater regular Premier League game time.

The £73million arrival of Jadon Sancho is likely to restrict James' Manchester United appearances further this coming season, with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial also in the mix for Old Trafford starting berths.

Rodon's immediate fate at Tottenham Hotspur hinges on how new Spurs boss Nuno Espírito Santo views the Wales defensive rock, whose stock rose further during the Euros.

Many Tottenham fans view Rodon as the best centre-half at the club, but he has yet to establish himself in the Spurs side.

Santo has also been linked with a move for highly-rated Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, with Belgium veteran Toby Alderweireld and Colombia's Davinson Sanchez hoping to be the first choice centre-back pairing again in 2021-22.

Potter helped bring through James and Rodon at the Liberty Stadium and is said to be monitoring the situation closely with the pair of them.

James was sold to Man Utd for £20m and has acquitted himself well at Old Trafford. However, Sancho's arrival will dent his hopes of establishing himself in the side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season and Potter is reportedly ready to make his move.

The Brighton boss is also eyeing Rodon, who joined Spurs for what many felt was a pittance at £11m, although that can rise to £15m with appearances and extras.

Rodon signed a five-year deal with Spurs and it is highly unlikely he would be leaving just yet.

But Potter is said to be ready to test Tottenham's resolve with a bid, with plans for either a permanent transfer or a season's loan deal, according to the Sun.

Brighton fear losing their £50m-rated England centre-back Ben White, who is wanted by a host of leading clubs.

If White is sold, Brighton have identified Rodon as a possible replacement.

Potter knows the two Wales players well, what makes them tick and will be aware they each want regular first-team football with Wales also gunning for the World Cup with this autumn's qualifiers.
