Man Utd field Jesse Lingard transfer interest as he could leave after deadline day

Jesse Lingard could still be in line for a Manchester United exit after the transfer deadline.

United finalised their incomings on Monday but could still see Lingard depart.

That’s because Portuguese side Porto are reportedly eyeing a season-long loan deal for the out of favour midfielder before their window slams short.

Portuguese clubs are still able to sign players until their deadline on October 25 with Lingard one of a number of Premier League players believed to be on Porto’s radar.

According to ESPN, they are in talks with the Red Devils over a potential move having sold left-back Alex Telles to the club on Deadline Day.

Lingard has fallen firmly down the pecking order at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He has yet to feature in the Premier League this season and has looked set for an exit after he linked up with new agent Mino Raiola last year.

He was linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham which never materialised and Porto could now provide him with an opportunity to get back to playing regularly.

Chelsea defenders Malang Sarr and Emerson Palmieri have also been linked with the Portuguese club.

Speaking after United’s League Cup win over Luton Town last month, former team-mate Darren Fletcher admitted he felt Lingard needed a new challenge.

Asked about Lingard’s future, the former United midfielder told Sky Sports: “It’s unknown. The alarm bells started ringing for me when he appointed Mino Raiola as his agent. Now you don’t appoint Mino Raiola as your agent if you’re looking at staying at a club.

“That suggests to me that he’s looking for a move. He’s not a starter in Manchester United ’s strongest team, he’s a squad player now. Yes, he’s come through the club and he’s been there a long time.

“Maybe, he feels like he is ready for a new challenge and maybe he feels he is at an age now where he needs to be a starter, he can’t be a squad player.

“It will be interesting to see what happens between now and the end of the window.”
