Man Utd fans spot unseen moment between Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka vs Wolves

Raphael Varane made an instant impact as he helped Manchester United to a hardfought 1-0 win over Wolves at Molineux.

The central defender made his full debut for the Red Devils, having signed for the club at the start of the Premier League season.

Varane was eased into the XI after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept him on the bench for the draw with Southampton at St Mary’s.

But against Wolves, Varane was in the line-up starting next to Harry Maguire at the heart of the United defence.

And it was a baptism of fire for the former Real Madrid defender as the hosts had wave after wave of attacks.

United managed to repel Bruno Lage’s side for much of the afternoon, although they were aided by some profligate finishing.

Mason Greenwood then netted a late winner to maintain Solskjaer’s side’s unbeaten record and move them to seven points from a possible nine.

And eagle-eyed Man United fans have spotted Varane’s effect in full focus, with footage showing him talking to Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of yet another Wolves chance.

Varane can be seen pointing out several areas of potential danger and telling the right-back to remain focused as Wolves prepare to swing a set-piece into the box.

Solskjaer and David De Gea pointed to Varane’s leadership, both on and off the field as his vast experience came to the fore.

“This was ‘welcome to the Premier League’ – tempo, the hustle-bustle, tackle, have to defend counter-attacks,” Solskjaer said after the win.

“Top, top performance. He’s good in the air, he’s so composed on the ball and he’s so experienced and nothing phases him.

“He was good in the dressing room before the game, half-time and so I’m delighted with his performance. I thought he showed his class.”

United ‘keeper David de Gea, who pulled off a string of impressive stops also paid tribute to the Frenchman’s leadership on his United debut.

He told MUTV: "He was very good, we kept a clean sheet so it’s always very good to start with a clean sheet.

“He’s a great lad, I think he’s good for the group. Very experienced centre back.

“Many, many games and I think he showed today he’s calm with the ball, he’s good in the air, he’s very quick, so a great defender – a great signing for us.”

Varane was back with the France national team on Tuesday night, but it was a disappointing night for Les Bleus, as they were held by Bosnia and Herzegovina with Jules Kounde sent-off after 51 minutes.
