Man Utd fans slammed over 'disgusting' Ed Woodward death chant during Tranmere clash

Manchester United fans were again heard chanting for the death of Ed Woodward during their FA Cup clash with Tranmere.

Old Trafford turned toxic on Wednesday night when the Red Devils were beaten 2-0 at home by Burnley to leave them six points off the top-four pace.

Woodward and the Glazers were targets of chants from the crowd, but one in particular has attracted criticism.

Some fans joined in a chant which has previously been heard at the ground this season, saying: "Build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put the Glazers on the top, put Ed Woodward in the middle and burn the f***ing lot."

Woodward did not make the trip to Prenton Park with the reasons for his absence unclear.

But United fans were again heard making the sick chants, having been branded an 'absolute disgrace' last week.

BBC commentator Ian Dennis said: "Regardless of your opinion of Ed Woodward you cannot ask for someone to die.

"If you want to be anti the board then sing 'sack the board', but for those individuals who are singing that about a human being is an absolute outrage."

United took a 3-0 lead at Prenton Park inside the first 16 minutes.

Harry Maguire opened the scoring with a stunning long-range effort before a quickfire second from Diogo Dalot.

Jesse Lingard also got in on the act as United showed their class despite the poor surface at Prenton Park. Phil Jones added a fourth before half time.

After hearing the chants, one United fan tweeted: "Thousands of people chanting they want Woodward to die week in week out is disgusting and makes me embarrassed to be a fan."
