Man Utd fans make transfer demand after Mike Phelan’s brilliant ‘winger’ find

The January window is fast approaching and Manchester United fans are well aware of which areas they need to strengthen.

The Red Devils are extremely light up front after allowing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave the club last summer.

And that’s led to a desperate attempt in United fans calling on the club to sign attacking talent.

Assistant boss Mike Phelan was on the receiving end of the Old Trafford faithful’s demands following his latest Twitter post.

Phelan is in Kazakhstan with United as they prepare to face Astana in their latest Europa League clash on Thursday afternoon (3.50pm).

And it seems Phelan has been taking some time to take in his local surroundings.

Alongside a photo of Phelan, a bird, and an unknown man, he posted the caption: “Found a flying winger”.

That led to United fans all making the same joke - while dropping a clear transfer hint ahead of the upcoming January window.

“Can he play at the right?” said one fan.

“Can he play RW?” said another.

“If he can play on the right I say sign him up!” joked a third.

A fourth’s brutal response included: “Swap him for Fred.”

While another supporter poked fun at the club’s recruitment policy of late.

He said: “Sums up our scouting network. Expectation: Sancho. Reality: a 30 year old man and his pet bird.”

United have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho in the past to address their concerns on the right wing and are likely to renew their interest in the summer.

However, while a move for Sancho looks unlikely, United chiefs are set to splash the cash on Erling Haaland in January.

The Red Bull Salzburg striker has impressed United scouts and the club are now ready to launch a bid in the winter window.

Any deal for Haaland, who has bagged 26 goals in 18 appearances this term, will cost at least £60m.
