Man Utd fans identify 'new' defender for next season after impressive display

Some clubs are still playing for big prizes this season, but for others it has already become about keeping their eye on the transfer market.

Several big money deals are expected to go through in the coming weeks and months, but in amongst all that it can be easy for clubs to forget about the players already on their books.

Manchester United were served a timely reminder on Monday though.

All season long, United's England under-21 defender Axel Tuanzebe has impressed on loan at Aston Villa, and on Monday afternoon he was at the heart of things as Dean Smith's side secured promotion to the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Derby County in the Championship playoff final at Wembley .

Tuanzebe shone alongside centre-back partner Tyrone Mings, who is on loan at the club from Bournemouth , and Smith was full of praise for the pair at the end.

“I said to my coaching team that if the two of them played well at Wembley, we’d win the game,” Smith said.

“Derby had a real attacking threat but we defended well. We’ve become so hard to beat."

Tuanzebe's dsplay was also enjoyed by United supporters, who are currently seeing their side consistently linked with a move for Ajax's young captain Matthijs de Ligt, who has shone in the Champions League this season and is also being coveted by Barcelona .

But it was telling that when mentioning the loan players that Villa have an option to purchase outright in the summer, Smith didn't mention Tuanzebe - who has played eight times for United's first-team.

And these Red Devils fans would love to see more of him next season.

Will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agree though?
