Man Utd face growing David de Gea concerns after dressing room response to poor form

Manchester United are facing growing concerns over David de Gea with players reportedly ‘worried’ about the form of the goalkeeper.

De Gea has come under fire for a string of high-profile errors in recent weeks and was widely criticised in the wake of their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

The Spaniard allowed a tame Mason Mount shot to slip under him and into the net with some feeling he could have also done better with Olivier Giroud’s opener.

And The Times say some team-mates are growing concerned over his form over the past couple of seasons having also been left feeling recent displays in training are ‘not up to scratch’.

Their concern over his displays in training and in matches could add to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's headache over the No.1 spot.

There have been growing calls for Dean Henderson to inherit the No.1 spot next season after his impressive form for Sheffield United during his loan spell.

And De Gea appears to be coming under increasing pressure to maintain his spot ahead of back-up Sergio Romero this season as United battle to secure a top four place and also bid for Europa League glory.

De Gea was slammed by club legend Roy Keane after an error led to Steven Bergwijn's goal against Tottenham and his Chelsea display has far from helped his case.

Solskjaer said: “This is not going to become a David de Gea press conference.

“We’re just going to stick together, we’ve got two games and we’re just going to focus on that. David is mentally strong enough to know that his job is to perform in training the next day and then be ready for the games."

Asked again about De Gea, Solskjaer added: “That’s your job to talk about and write about, and my job is to prepare the team for West Ham. And that’s what we’re doing.

“We’re just focusing on that one, we’re not going to talk about individuals because no-one here is going to feel that we put more pressure on them.”
