Man Utd eyeing crucial new backroom appointment as Red Devils plan for future

Manchester United are reportedly considering an attempt to lure highly-regarded director of football Luis Campos to Old Trafford in the near future.

Campos, 56, was a manager for 20 years before becoming a scout for a brief period for Real Madrid.

He first took up a position as director of football at Monaco in 2013 and made a move to join Lille in 2017.

Campos is widely regarded as one of the most canny operators about, and according to Canal Plus United are looking to take advantage of the Portuguese chief's itchy feet to tempt him to Old Trafford.

Campos is reportedly attempting to leave Lille after having been involved in a conflict with director Marc Ingla recently.

Tottenham were linked with a move for Campos over the summer but in the end nothing materialised, while Serie A side Roma are also thought to be monitoring his situation to see how things play out at Lille.

United - and their executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in particular - have been heavily criticised in recent years for their apparent lack of strategy in the transfer market.

Calls for a director of football to be implemented grew after another frustrating summer in which they failed to land any of their top targets.

The likes of rivals Liverpool and Manchester City both have a director of football, and United may soon follow suit in a restructure of the club.

Campos has been instrumental in bringing in talent such as Nicolas Pepe, Victor Osimhen and Gabriel Magalhaes, all of whom have since made big money moves and have earned Lille a huge amount of profit.

He also brought in the likes of Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Anthony Martial at Monaco for tiny fees, and he is clearly a man who knows what he is doing transfer-wise.
