Man Utd 'eye transfer of Stoke youngster after Darren Fletcher recommendation'

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the summer signing of Stoke defender Nathan Collins.

The Red Devils were advised to move for the 18-year-old after impressing former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, who was playing with Collins at Stoke, according to the Daily Mail .

Collins played three times in the Championship this season after making his senior debut on April 9 as a substitute against Swansea.

A Republic of Ireland Under-17s international, Collins was set to play an important role for Stoke next season as manager Nathan Jones looks to push for promotion after finishing 16th in the Championship.

However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to inject some young blood into an ageing squad, and Swansea’s 21-year-old Daniel James is also on his radar.

Fletcher was a former teammate of Solskjaer’s having spent 13 seasons at Old Trafford and making 342 appearances before joining West Brom in 2015.

But after being released by Stoke at the end of the season, Fletcher is being considered for a potential backroom role at Manchester United .

Fletcher would be reunited with fellow ex-United midfielder Michael
Carrick in Solskjaer’s backroom staff if he was to rejoin the Red Devils.
