Man Utd defender Eric Bailly to fly home for scans after latest injury blow

Eric Bailly has suffered a fresh injury setback after sustaining knee damage in Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham.

The centre-back lasted just nine minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute at the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.

It was only his third game back since undergoing a knee operation for medial ligament damage, which ruled him out of the end of last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “It's never nice when you get an injury and not worth it when you lose one. He's done his knee but we're not sure how bad it is we need to get back to Manchester and do the scans but let's hope for the best.”

Bailly had been determined to make an impression on Solskjaer this summer amid United’s pursuit of Harry Maguire.

Solskjaer is likely to allow at least one of his current crop of six centre-backs to leave if United secure the signing of the Leicester defender.

Bailly is one of those who looks under threat, along with Marcos Rojo.

But United will have to assess the extent of his injury after leaving the pitch on a stretcher when landing awkwardly on his left ankle.

He was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe, who United are still decide if they will send out on loan next season.
