Man Utd defender Eric Bailly out for four to five months after suffering knee injury

Eric Bailly will miss between four and five months of action after suffering a knee injury, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The centre-back was a half-time substitute against Tottenham last week, but lasted just 10 minutes before falling awkwardly inside his own penalty area chasing down Heung-min Son.

Bailly was stretchered from the field and left the stadium with a brace on his left knee.

After the win over Tottenham, Solskjaer said: "It seems that he’s twisted his knee so we just have to do some scans and checks on him. At first sight, it doesn’t look great but let’s see how it goes."

Bailly has now gone under the knife and is not expected back before the turn of the year.

Solskjaer remains in the hunt for a new centre-back regardless of his current defenders' fitness but United continue to resist matching Leicester City's £90million asking price for Harry Maguire.

More to follow.
