Man Utd dealt Erling Haaland blow as he 'flies in for Borussia Dortmund transfer talks'

Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland .

Haaland, 19, has caught the eye of some of Europe's top clubs after a fine season with Salzburg.

He was in action in his side's Champions League defeat to Liverpool in midweek with United among the sides to send scouts to the clash in Austria.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked with Haaland at Molde and remains a big fan but United now face a major battle to land the teenager.

Reports in Germany suggest Borussia Dortmund are now in pole position with Haaland flying in for talks this week.

Haaland is said to have flown by a chartered jet into Dortmund Airport on Wednesday, 24 hours after the Liverpool defeat, reports Ruhr Nachrichten and local media Radio 91.2.

It is claimed he then met an employee of the Bundesliga club ahead of talks over a proposed move.

RB Leipzig, who are owned by the same company as Salzburg, are also reportedly keen on Haaland, whose release clause is just £17m.

Haaland is thought to have been encouraged bu agent Mino Raiola to secure a move to a club where he is guaranteed to play, rather than join one of European football's powerhouses.

Juventus and Real Madrid are both keeping tabs on Haaland, son of former Leeds and Manchester City midfielder Alf-Inge.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Liverpool, he said: "I just focus on my job – playing football – to enjoy what I do every day and to go in with a clear mindset to be in the present and enjoy the moment right now.

"My focus is Salzburg and me as a player. So it’s not hard at all.
