Man Utd could use secret weapon this week in transfer pursuit of striker target

Manchester United could be handed a boost in their pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund thanks to the influence of his Denmark teammate Christian Eriksen.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his front line this summer. The Red Devils have one senior striker at the moment in the form of injury-stricken Anthony Martial following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in December, while Wout Weghorst is set to return to Burnley at the end of his six-month loan spell.

Hojlund has emerged as a potential target, having scored 10 times in 34 matches during his debut campaign at Atalanta. However, United are not the only team interested in the 20-year-old, with several Premier League clubs and other sides across Europe ready to sign the highly-rated forward.

But, according to the Manchester Evening News, Eriksen has the perfect opportunity to convince Hojlund that he should move to United when the pair reunite on international duty. Denmark face Northern Ireland in qualification for Euro 2024 on Friday, before travelling to Slovenia three days' later.

Hojlund scored a hat-trick on his first international start for Denmark in March, putting his name in the shop window. Speaking earlier this week, Hojlund admitted he is flattered by the transfer interest from United but didn't give away much on his future as the Red Devils track his signature.

He told Tipsbladet on the interest in him: "It is a huge club, so I must have done something right if it’s rumoured they want me. We have to see what happens.

"As you see and hear, I imagine a lot could happen to quite a few strikers this summer, as many clubs are looking for a no9. Something will definitely happen there, and then we’ll have to wait and see if I am included in it.

"I am very happy to be with Atalanta and we have qualified for Europe. I have found myself in a really good place here, so now we have to wait and see."

However, Hojlund isn't the only striker linked with a move for the Red Devils. Harry Kane is Ten Hag's top target but Tottenham are playing hardball on a potential transfer. Daniel Levy does not want to sell to a Premier League rival, meaning United are set to turn their attention to other targets.

A report emerged on Monday suggesting United are set to make an opening bid for Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani. He has scored 23 goals in 45 matches during the 2022/23 campaign and also shone for France at the World Cup.

The 24-year-old is a dynamic forward but predominately plays down the middle and has pace to burn. He is also clever in front of goal and can finish, as evidenced by his excellent scoring record.
