Man Utd could bid £70million to land West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in January transfer window

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice insists he’s a happy Hammer – despite being linked with a £70million move to Manchester United .

Rice, 20, has continued to improve on the form which has made him an England international as Manuel Pellegrini’s side have enjoyed an encouraging start to the season.

The England international insists there’s only one man for him – boss Pellegrini. That won’t encourage Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at gloomy Old Trafford.

And United are monitoring his development as they search for a new defensive midfield lynchpin to help lift the gloom at Old Trafford ahead of the January transfer window.

But Rice said: “I signed a five year contract with West Ham last year, which will keep me at club till I’m 24, and for me this is the best place to be right now.

“I am playing for a manager who has given me my chance and played me week in week out.

“I’m improving every week and although I see all this speculation, I don’t really think about it too much.

“It’s all talk until something happens – and nothing has - so I’m just focussed on West Ham, doing my best and making fans happy.”

Rice has also defended Wilfried Zaha after fans claimed the Crystal Palace winger spat at the England international during the Eagles’ victory at the London Stadium last weekend.

Zaha took to social media to lambast the allegations as “lies”.

And Rice said: “Some fans said Wilfried spat at me but I didn’t see anything.

“I have seen clips of it and it looks like he just he just spat on the floor.

“So I agree with Zaha that nothing happened. He really didn’t do anything.”
