Man Utd 'considering January transfer swoop' for Tottenham star Christian Eriksen

Manchester United are weighing up the possibility of renewing their interest in Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen when the transfer window reopens.

The Denmark midfielder has made no secret of his intention to leave Spurs, and was strongly linked with a switch to  Manchester United  or  Real Madrid in the summer.

But a move failed to materialise and Eriksen, whose contract expires next summer, was forced to stay put until January.

However Goal has claimed that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains interested in Eriksen in his desperate bid to bolster his midfield ranks.

United weighed up a £70million summer swoop for Eriksen but dropped their interest due to the midfielder's willingness to join Madrid.

Eriksen would prefer a move to Spain but Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has so far been reluctant to press ahead with a serious offer.

And that could give United the advantage, with Old Trafford chiefs reportedly weighing up a cut-price offer due to Eriksen's current contract saga.

Eriksen is in the last year of his contract at Spurs and could enter into pre-contract negotiations with European clubs from January, eventually leaving on a free transfer next summer.

The Spurs star expressed his disappointment at failing to seal a move after revealing in the summer that he wanted a new challenge.

He said: “No it wasn’t wrong (to push) but it is football and you never know what happens and many things always come into play.

“I wish I could decide just as in the Football Manager game, but unfortunately I can’t.

“I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year. But it’s clear that it’s been a little more violent this year because my contract is about to expire.

“I know a lot of people are interested in where to play. That’s the way it is. This is how it is in a top club if you have done well. There will always be rumours.”
