Man Utd confirm two additions to Premier League squad after transfer window activity

Manchester United have confirmed that Sergio Romero and Phil Jones have been added to their 23-man Premier League squad.

The Red Devils had a quiet January transfer window but offloaded Marcos Rojo to Boca Juniors and Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Bayer Leverskusen on a permanent basis whilst Jesse Lingard joined West Ham on loan.

Jones is back in the fold having been contending with injury issues so far this season and was also confirmed in United's Europa League squad earlier this week.

Romero, meanwhile, joins David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Lee Grant on the list of goalkeepers having been unable to secure an exit.

New signing Amad Diallo does not feature on the list as he is included as an Under-21 player alongside the likes of Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Nathan Bishop.

Solskjaer said: "Sergio is working hard, training. He's in the group.

"Of course he lost a lot of training early on in the season, he joined us very late, having some time back home and over Christmas as well.

"He's working with the 'keepers but with Dean, Lee and David it's been more difficult to get into the match squad."

Solskjaer discussed Jones and his recovery from injury earlier this week.

“It’s disheartening, it’s the worst thing for a footballer,” he said.

“When you've got injuries, it can take your passion away, your chance to play football away. He’s a top footballer, he was in the World Cup squad two years back. He was brilliant when I came him.

“I wish him back into the squad as quick as I can. He’s a solid citizen and one of those you can trust. He’s working very hard to get back. For us, and for himself.

“I’ve been through bad injuries myself and it might take your belief away and your enjoyment away,.

“He’s been working so hard to get back, [he's] had a couple of set-backs but hopefully we can get some good use [out of him].”
