Man Utd confirm injury blow for Alexis Sanchez as forward suffers another setback

Alexis Sanchez’s Manchester United nightmare has suffered a fresh blow after the Chilean sustained a hamstring injury in training on Thursday.

The forward, who has scored just once this season and been displaced in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up by Anthony Martial, will undergo tests to determine the severity of the issue.

Sanchez has grown frustrated by his lack of first team football at Old Trafford – and would be prepared to leave if the right offer comes up in January.

But his latest injury only hinders his attempts to force his way into Mourinho’s plans – or tempt a buyer to come in for him when the window opens in the New Year.

Sanchez has started just seven games in an injury disrupted campaign.

With Martial proving one of United’s most impressive performers this season, the 29-year-old has had to make do with a role on the bench in recent weeks – and couldn’t even hold down a starting role while Romelu Lukaku recovered from his own hamstring problem.

Despite Sanchez’ frustrations, Mourinho claimed last week that he was unlikely to leave in January.

“I don’t think so because he never told me that he wants to leave or isn’t happy to stay,” said the United manager, who also made it clear he would not keep a player against their will.

“He is like the team.

“He is improving like the team is improving and when he plays he is giving us his personality, his desire to play, to produce for the team and trying to adapt to how we play and vice versa.

“Can he do better? I think we can all do better. I can do better and he can do better and all the other players can also do better.”
