Man Utd confirm Antony shirt number as £85m new boy eyes debut against Arsenal

Antony will wear 21 for Manchester United after his shirt number was confirmed ahead of his potential debut against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 22-year-old winger was officially signed by the Red Devils on transfer deadline day for a whopping £85million. Antony has trained with his new teammates ahead of Arsenal's visit to Old Trafford, as Erik ten Hag aims to make it four successive Premier League victories.

Meanwhile, fellow deadline-day addition Martin Dubravka has been handed the No.31 shirt, having been signed to challenge David de Gea for the first-choice goalkeeping spot. It's expected that De Gea will keep his place for Sunday's match, but Antony could appear for the first time.

Ten Hag has kept his cards close to his chest whenever asked about the Brazilian's potential involvement, explaining after United's 1-0 win at Leicester City on Thursday: "Today, he did his first training, so [an] individual [session]. Tomorrow (Friday), we have a team session and on Saturday we have a team session, so I will think about it and then we will take a decision."

The Dutch tactician was more willing to express how confident he was that Antony will live up to his eye-watering price tag. "He has proved himself already," Ten Hag told Sky Sports. " Champions League, Brazilian national team, Olympic gold medal. Brazil has a number of highly talented players so they can select two or three good teams. So he can deal with pressure.

"So he will bring temperament and creativity. Also, for him it's a new start and he has to adapt to the team and to the Premier League and to high intensity. I’m sure he will adapt. He can deal with that pressure. He lives for football. He so enjoys football and he focused on that to improve his game and for the team. When he is doing that, the performances will come."

The man himself is raring to go, telling manutd.com : "It's my dream come true. I'm really grateful for the support and faith shown in me by everyone here. I want to make history here, I hope to achieve great things with the club. I'm delighted and honoured to look at my chest and see that I'm wearing the badge of this massive club."
