Man Utd close in on Daniel James transfer - but face paying £50m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United are closing in on the capture of Swansea winger Daniel James and pushing to sign Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United are hopeful of completing a £15million swoop for James in the coming days, but will have to pay up to £50m to sign Palace and England Under-21 right-back Wan-Bissaka.

Palace are determined to hold out for the best possible price for Wan-Bissaka, who United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified as his ideal first-choice right-back for next season.

With Antonio Valencia having left, Matteo Darmian also on his way this summer and veteran defender Ashley Young past his best, Solskajer needs to recruit a new first-choice right-back.

Wan-Bissaka is in demand after a fantastic season for Palace, but United are bidding to reach agreement with Palace over a fee, before discussing personal terms with the 21-year-old.

He was unlucky to miss out on Gareth Southgate's England squad for the Nations League finals next month and will instead feature in the Under-21s European Championship this summer.

James, 21, is in demand after a stunning breakthrough season with Swansea in the Championship, attracting interest from a host of clubs, including Brighton , Everton and Newcastle .

Brighton had hoped newly-appointed boss Graham Potter would be able to bring James with him to the Amex Stadium, but were unable to match the package United were able to offer the player.

United made known their interest in James earlier this year and prioritised his signature, with the Wales international set to become Solskjaer's first signing of a big summer rebuilding project.
