Man Utd chief transfer negotiator arrives at training ground amid Bruno Fernandes links

Manchester United could be about to step up their efforts to land Bruno Fernandes after chief transfer negotiator Matt Judge made an appearance at Carrington on Wednesday.

Portugal international Fernandes has seemingly been on the cusp of a move to Old Trafford for the past week, as United seek to improve their quality and creativity in the final third.

The Sporting Lisbon captain is said to be preparing to make a final appearance for the club in Friday night's clash with Portuguese table-toppers Benfica, after which he could be whisked to England and watch United's clash with Liverpool on Sunday from the Anfield stands .

Judge - who is usually based in London - has a varied role at United and isn't often involved in the day-to-day goings on at the club.

His role involves backing up the work of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, with his duties described on his Linkedin page .

On his 'About' section, he writes: "Managing Manchester United's equity and debt capital structure - three equity offerings incl. the IPO, totalling over $450m; and three debt refinancings ($1bn+) - debt private placement, term-loan and RCF. Also player negotiations (transfers and playing contracts)."

Jorge Mendes - who is not Fernandes' agent but is involved in the deal - was spotted in the stands at Old Trafford for Wednesday night's FA Cup third round replay at home to Wolves , another club he has had several dealings with in the past.

Mendes has been based in England for a few days, and reportedly had a hand in Gedson Fernandes' 18-month loan switch to Tottenham from Benfica, which was completed on Tuesday.

Sporting are said to have slowed down the process of Bruno Fernandes' move in the past few days in order for him to face Benfica on Friday, but the move now appears to be gathering pace.
