Man Utd chairman to overrule Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Anthony Martial transfer demand

Anthony Martial's Manchester United future is secure – because the forward is viewed as the club's "Pele" by co-chairman Joel Glazer.

Martial's focus and commitment have been called into question by current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his predecessor Jose Mourinho.

Both expressed concerns about the France striker's attitude in training and matches, which led to suggestions the 23-year-old could be sold.

But Martial's position is said to be safe, because executive co-chairman Glazer is such a fan and regards him as his favourite player at the club, according to sources.

Martial signed a new contract until 2023 in January, worth £200,000-a-week, although has since scored just twice in 13 appearances for United.

The forward, signed from Monaco for £36million in 2015, faced an uncertain future last summer, with Mourinho keen to offload him after losing faith.

But Mourinho's desire to jettison Martial was thwarted by Joel Glazer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who see him as a key part of United's future.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Man Utd coaching staff for next season

Mourinho's desire to sign Inter Milan and Croatia World Cup star Ivan Perisic did not come off because of the Glazer and Woodward's total belief in Martial.

Against that backdrop, Martial is set to stay at United, despite fans having misgivings over his ability to produce consistently over a season.

Solskjaer faces a major summer in the transfer market and wants to bring in as many as five new signings before United return for pre-season training on July 1.
