Man Utd camp has been unhappy for months with Ralf Rangnick yet to lift mood

The struggles of Manchester United ’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick appear to only be increasing, with reports stating that the German has failed to improve the mood around Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have struggled to recover from their failure to win the Europa League last season, with an expected Premier League title challenge this season quickly falling apart.

Inconsistent performances and a run of poor results saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lose his job as manager following a disastrous defeat to relegation-threatened Watford.

Rangnick was quickly installed as interim manager with the hope that he finally could install a winning philosophy at the Premier League giants.

So far though, that has not happened, with performances remaining inconsistent a month into Rangnick’s reign.

The German has remained unbeaten in his first four games in charge, but the displays of his side have been increasingly poor.

United eked out a win over relegation-doomed Norwich three weeks ago, recovering from a poor first-half thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

But the lowest point of Rangnick’s reign came on Monday night when the Red Devils travelled to Newcastle.

The Magpies appeared to be able to counter Rangnick’s famed tactics with ease, and arguably should have won.

Instead, United were able to rescue a draw thanks to a second-half strike from substitute Edinson Cavani.

Ronaldo stormed off the St James’ Park pitch following the game, which has been a frequent sight in recent weeks, suggesting all is not well within the United squad.

According to the Daily Telegraph, that has been the situation for some time, with the camp being described as ‘unhappy for months’.

It is further stated that Rangnick has failed to change that situation and lift the mood around Old Trafford.

A ‘host of players’ are said to still want to leave the club despite Rangnick’s arrival, with some struggling to adapt to the German’s training sessions.

The atmosphere of a ‘losing team’ has stuck around, with a feeling that the whole squad is not pulling in the same direction.

Rangnick has not been helped by the outbreak of Covid-19 that hit the squad two weeks ago, with only a small group of first-team players available for training.

That has proven ‘very disruptive’ to the new boss, who has attempted to install a new 4-2-2-2 formation into his players.

United’s temporary boss will hope to improve performances quickly, before they slip further behind Arsenal in the race to finish in the top four.

The Red Devils host Burnley on Thursday night in their final game of 2021, desperately in need of a positive performances.

Rangnick could use the January transfer window to boost his squad, though he will have to work fast with only a month to sign players.
