Man Utd bosses in disagreement over £30m summer transfer decision

Manchester United decision makers are reportedly divided over the future of Jesse Lingard.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a highly impressive loan spell with West Ham last term, scoring nine times in the second half of the season.

His time in east London has helped to reestablish Lingard back in the national spotlight after a disappointing couple of years at Old Trafford.

Lingard had become a man on the peripheries under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with it looking increasingly likely he would be moved on this summer.

However, his sterling form for West Ham has led to some believing he could still have a future in Solskjaer's squad.

The Hammers are desperate to bring Lingard back to the London Stadium, but the Athletic suggest they are unwilling to match his parent club’s valuation.

Despite having less than 12 months on his current contract, United are said to be holding out for £30million, a fee the Hammers can reportedly not afford.

That could lead to further debate over Lingard’s future and the report adds that there is some disagreement behind the scenes.

Some believe offering the midfielder a new contract would protect his transfer value, while those on the football side think the time is right to sell.

The Red Devils are set to announce the £72.9million transfer of Jadon Sancho later this week, after the England star completed his medical.

Sancho completed the formalities following England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy, he will now go on holiday for three weeks before joining up with the squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Focus will now turn to defensive reinforcements, but there is a feeling that it could be a case of selling before they buy in the remainder of the window.

Lingard remains the club’s most saleable asset and has already hinted that he would be open to a move, admitting that playing regular football is now his top priority.

Speaking earlier this summer, he said: "Regular football is the most important thing for me.

"After going on loan and getting a good run in the team, you started to see the real me, with the goals and the assists.

"I've never doubted my ability, I've always believed in myself. I spoke to the manager in pre-season and said, 'I need game time'. He said, 'we can discuss it December time', and we spoke again and he agreed to let me go on loan.

"I had various conversations with him during my time at West Ham. He was very supportive and it was a great loan for me."
